Focus L

From Eurekan Academy

This action increases next weaponskill's potency by 30% per stack. It can stack upto 16 times, resulting in a 480% potency increase.

As each stack requires a full gcd to build Focus L is only really worth using on the opening weaponskill of a fight. This way you can build up all 16 stacks during the pull countdown. This also means it's only really useful on jobs which can open with a very hard hitting opening weaponskill. Some of these are:

  • Midare Setsugekka on Samurai
  • Higanbana on Samurai
  • Inner Release powered Fell Cleave on Warrior
  • Tornado Kick on Monk
  • Barrage buffed Refulgent Arrow on Bard
  • Reassemble Buffed Drill on Machinist
  • Technical Finish on Dancer

Focus L with Double Edge L

Tanks and melee have access to both Double Edge L and Focus L. At the start of a fight you can build 16 stacks of each action for a 16/16 Focus Double Edge buffed weaponskill. This is usually done when chaining Double Edge and is only worth on:

  • Midare Setsugekka on Samurai
  • Higanbana on Samurai
  • Tornado Kick on Monk
  • Inner Release powered Fell Cleave on Warrior
  • Goring Blade on Paladin
  • Bloodspiller on Dark Knight
  • Sonic Break on Gunbreaker

Dragoon and Ninja doesn't have a very hard hitting opening weaponskill so they can't benefit from Focus L as other jobs do. Reaper arguably can use Soul Scythe as a hard opening weaponskill however it is usually better for them to pair their Double Edge with Rapid Recast for initial chain building.

Executing the weaponskill

Even though most of these actions are just pressing the opening weaponskill, some of them require a bit of planning and preparation beforehand.

Samurai

Depending on which opening gcd you are going to use, prepare either 1 Sen for Higanbana or 3 Sen for Midare Setsugekka beforehand.

Higanbana is overall the higher damage option, although Midare Setsugekka can critical direct hit, making it competitive with Higanbana.

Monk

Make sure you have both Lunar and Solar Nadi ready before the fight. After boss is engaged, just auto attack to get in combat, do not press any gcds. After you are in combat make sure you are not in a range to hit the boss. Use your Perfect Balance and execute your AoE skills, making sure you are not hitting the boss. When Tornado Kick is ready, use your buffs and hit the boss.
