How to unlock light farming?

Upon reaching level 25, having finished first two quests in Pagos, and having a finished Anemos Weapon, Gerolt will offer a quest, which will reward you with a kettle to collect so called Light in the instance. Underneath your Duty Information, where you can see how long your timer lasts, you now can find a bar, representative for how much Light you have already collected. On the right side you can see an example, how this might look.

Light is awarded at a fixed rate as FATE rewards or randomly from enemies. You have a higher change of getting light from enemies the more experience you get, which means targetting mobs of a higher level than you and stacking experience buffs is recommended, e.g. Pagos Elemental (Fairy Buff) and Potion of Harmony.

The amount of light you get is random. It's basically connected to the "experience gain", and it's its quantity multiplier is described by the messages you see on the screen. From lowest to the highest multiplier, it goes:

Feeble light

Gentle light

Bright light

Brilliant light

Blinding light

Newborn star

Exploding star

The lowest amount of light you can get is just few percentages of your light bar, while the highest is full 9 bars from exploding star.

The kettle can hold a maximum of 9 Light at a time. You can see a small number above your light bar, which indicates how much Light is currently accumulated in the kettle. Once the kettle reaches 9 Light, you will not be able to collect any more. In order to empty your kettle and to turn the Light into Frosted Protean Crystals you want to visit the forge, which is located at Test Cavern 1-P X: 6.1 Y:21.4. The easiest way to go there is teleporting to Geothermal Studies, then heading south and taking the west drop down the ledge. While you make your way along the edge of the cliff you dropped onto, you want to be careful and use walking rather than running in order to avoid the Frozen Void Dragon guarding the cave.

When you are inside the cave, simply interact with the forge and all your collected Light will be exchanged for Froste Protean Crystals and you can continue collecting more Light.

Light Farming Options While Leveling

Light farming in Pagos is most efficient at max level, however you can do it passively while leveling for your relic weapon. Light farming options while leveling mainly consist of:

  • Light farm via Mutations
  • Light farm via Bunny FATEs

Light Farm via Mutations

The best way to farm light at any level is to target any higher level enemy that mutates (or adapts, though mutations give more light on average). Depending on your level, you'll want to target different enemies.

Mutation and adaptation rate in Pagos is quite low. We recommend checking the bestiary to find enemies that suit your current level and weather conditions best.

Light Farm via Bunny FATEs

You can use south bunny FATE to sync your level to 23 or north one to 34, and use this method to farm enemies around the FATE while solo.

In general though, if you want to farm light in Pagos, you should be looking to get to max level in Pagos as fast as possible.

Light Farming Options at Max Level

Max level light farming options mainly consist of:

  • Forge Farm
  • Light farm via Bunny FATEs
  • Cassie Prefarm
  • Cold-warped Lockbox Farming

Forge Farm (Old/Outdated)

The sleeping dragon next to the forge is level 40 and can adapt, bringing even more experience than usual. You may use the flower enemies around the forge to get your chain to 4, 9, 14, 19.... and then kill the dragon for the bonus at 5, 10, 15, 20.... This can be done with any dragons around the map, but its easiest with this as not much else is happening around. Methods mentioned below are vastly superior than this method.

Cassie Prefarm

Ameretats (morbols) are level 40 and award light quite regularly. You must be in a group that's actually pulling the enemies to get light. This also works for Louhi mobs as well. This method works outside of required FATE windows as well if you can't find a lockbox farming group.

Light Farm via Bunny FATEs

Bunny FATEs in Pagos are mostly upto exploit the level syncing feature within the FATE area.

When using the Southern Bunny FATE, you will get synced to level 23. You want to pull monsters at your original level around the FATE area. Once they are about to die, you sync down with the FATEs Level Sync Feature and you will be rewarded the experience and therefore Light chance as if you were level 23. This method is sometimes annoying with managing low levels of enemies (and trying to not kill them too quickly). As South bunny is often being done, this FATE also can be difficult to use for this purpose.

The Northern Bunny Fate can be used in a similar fashion, however it will sync you to level 34. It is harder to pull off, but during fog the snakes around can mutate, during night there are ashkin soldiers which can adapt and during blizzards there are sprites which can adapt. Gobbues have a chance to mutate at any weather during night as well. Light gain here can be quite exceptional, if you can handle it correctly.

If you have a larger group, you might want to use one mounted person, pulling the nearby Frozen Void Dragon (sleeping towards Igloo FATE) on every chain bonus at 5/10/15/20/25/30 for a chance of a light boost.

Cold-warped Lockbox Farm

This method works for any level, provided you find enemies that are mutating and higher level than you/your group.

Mutations in particular have a chance to drop special lockboxes with a different loot table to the normal ones, The higher the enemies' level, the higher the chance you get a cold-warped lockbox and the amount of light. There are a few methods for farming these efficiently, this usually requires a group of players who are well prepared and the right weather conditions to target specific mobs.

You can get the maximum amount of lockboxes as well as light at max level. Good enemy options for lockbox farming are:

  • Pagos Chimeras during Blizzards behind Louhi's cave
  • Val Griffins during Fair Skies behind Cassie arena as well as Louhi's cave
  • Greater Amphiptres during Thunder in front of Cassie arena
  • Escaped Tyrannosaurs during night time in Louhi cave

In Pagos the mutation rate is very low, this means it's important to utilise your chain bonus to guarantee box drops, killing certain mutations on the 30 chain guarantees a drop of between 1-3 boxes.

There are few strategies to farm these mobs as efficiently as possible, but it is beyond the scope of this guide.
