The Lance of Virtue

Absolute Virtue is an Aern, manifested by the Lance of Virtue.

It has a super-buff that makes him unkillable which can be cleared only by completing support fate successfully, after which it will respawn without the super-buff.

As a wind aspected enemy, Absolute Virtue has increased evasion. It is useful to have Feint L up when fighting this boss. Otherwise your combos might break and you can miss some of your hard hitting attacks.

How to properly engage Absolute Virtue

By default, Absolute Virtue has a buff called True Virtue which makes it unkillable. In order to defeat Absolute Virtue, players inside Baldesion Arsenal must spawn the support fate outside the dungeon to remove the debuff and make Absolute Virtue killable. For this:

  1. After Raiden, clear 6 elemental rooms and find the portal to teleport to another floor.
  2. You will be teleported to the Astral Tier, mirrored version of Umbral Tier. Beat the enemies to reach the rooms.
  3. Each room has a big platform and a trap to the cardinals of the platform. Let the tanks take the traps with their invulnerabilities.
  4. Standing inside all 6 platforms will spawn the support FATE outside (and add 30 minutes to Arsenal timer).
  5. Support FATE needs to be completed successfully, while players inside Baldesion Arsenal fight the mobs that spawned after standing in the platform.
  6. Once Support FATE is done, Absolute Virtue jumps out of the arena and spawns without the debuff and can be fought as normal.

Ability List

  • Meteor: Raidwide.
  • Eidos: Absolute Virtue buffs itself with an Astral Essence or Umbral Essence debuff, indicated by the colour of its bracelets and halo, strengthening the matching colour. This buff will effect later mechanics Hostile Aspect and Impact Stream.
  • Hostile Aspect: Puddles around the arena will spawn. Puddles matching with Absolute Virtue's buff/halo/bracelet colour will double in size. Inflicts a stack of Mark of Mortality.
  • Impact Stream: Arena will be split in two, one half light and one half dark. The half matching Absolute Virtue's buff/halo/bracelet colour will deal massive damage and inflict Mark of Mortality. Other half will deal normal damage.
  • Medusa Javelin: Large 90° cone centered on a random player. Deals heavy damage and petrifies anyone that got hit.
  • Auroral Wind: Circular AoE tankbuster on main target.
  • Turbulent Aether: 8 dark and light puddles will spawn at intercardinals, each containing an orb of same colour. Orbs then will tether to random players and approach them. If a player is standing on a puddle of opposite colour to their tether/orb when orb reaches them, they will only take mild damage. If an orb reaches a player outside of a puddle or on an unmatched colour puddle, it will explode in an AoE, dealing massive damage and inflicting Damage Down to them and any nearby player. If an orb is not resolved in time, it will accelerate towards the player, exploding and giving a Damage Down. Each puddle can only hold one player.
  • Explosive Impulse (R): Absolute Virtues leaves the arena, and 3 proximity markers appear at the edges of the arena. Three clones of Absolute Virtue spawn on the edge behind the proximity markers. Each clone will execute an Impact Stream.
  • Explosive Impulse (A): A proximity marker is placed under a random player. Absolute Virtue then returns to arena on that location.
  • Call Wyvern: Two lightning aspected Aern's Wynav will spawn close to the middle of the arena. If not killed in time, they will cast Explosion, dealing massive damage and inflicting a Damage Down and Magic Vulnerability Up.

Most of these mechanics will happen in conjunction with each other. Some of these conjunctions have their own notions in the timeline:

  • Triple Impact: Refers to 3 successive Impact Streams from Absolute Virtue's clones
  • Double Impact: Refers to successive Explosive Impulse (R), Impact Stream (R) from Absolute Virtue's clone & Eidos, Impact Stream from Absolute Virtue. (R refers to casts executed by Absolute Virtue's clone, Relative Virtue)

What to watch out for

Main ones to watch out for are:

  1. Eidos into Hostile Aspect
  2. Turbulent Aether into Medusa Javelin

For the first combo; there isn't always a melee spot, moreover sometimes you might have to go between a puddle and the wall.

For the second one, even if you get tether stay close to Absolute Virtue until it does Medusa Javelin. After Medusa Javelin, you can resolve your orbs. If you cannot make it into a safe puddle in time, go towards the edge of the arena out of the raid and wait for your orb to hit you.

In general be close to AV to dodge Medusa Javelin easier, and be away from the main tank to not get hit by AoE tankbuster.

What happens if Absolute Virtue is engaged without clearing Support FATE?

Absolute Virtue has a super-buff called True Virtue that makes it unkillable without clearing support fate first. Even if you get it down to 1 HP, you won't be able to kill it. When engaged with the super-buff Absolute Virtue will do:

  • Mighty Strikes, that will make every attack critical hit (including auto attacks, tankbusters, raidwides)
  • Dualcast, that makes Auroral Wind tankbuster and Meteor raidwide instant cast and hit multiple times
  • Absolute Benediction, brings Absolute Virtue back to full HP
  • Hallowed Ground, making Absolute Virtue go completely invulnerable
  • After which it will spam casting tankbusters and raidwides until the raid wipes

Miscellaneous

  • Absolute Virtue's clones are called Relative Virtue.
  • During Turbulent Aether, if player count in the arena is 8 or lower and even, main tank will also get a tether that needs to be resolved. Otherwise main tank will not get a tether.
  • During Hostile Aspect (except the introductory one), there will always be 9 puddles spawning. The colour ratio is 4:5, regardless of Absolute Virtue's buff/halo/bracelets.

Trivia

  • Absolute Virtue is a direct reference to superboss from Final Fantasy XI.
